Kaseya Helps City Year To Automate Management of Distributed Infrastructure

Proactive Approach to IT Systems Management Enables Organization to Empower Corps Members to Tackle the National Dropout Epidemic

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – June 27, 2011 — Kaseya®, the leading global provider of automated IT systems management software, today announced that City Year, a Boston-based national nonprofit organization, has deployed the Kaseya IT Automation Framework to help administrators provide IT services and support to more than 1,000 systems distributed in 21 remote locations across the country.

“Kaseya allowed us to go from a completely reactive strategy to a proactive, preventative approach,” said Pat Walsh, director of IT operations, City Year. “The company’s automation and remote access enables efficiencies that have allowed City Year to dramatically improve IT services without adding staff.”

Founded in 1988, City Year’s mission is to unite young leaders directly with at-risk children in order help improve students’ academics and encourage them to graduate high school. Faced with old technology and mounting operational costs from shipping sick laptops back and forth, the City Year IT staff knew they needed a management tool that would support a growing infrastructure and user base without expanding the IT department. Kaseya IT Automation Framework provides complete visibility into and control over the distributed systems, allowing City Year to better track and maintain the availability and performance of users’ machines so that employees and corps members have reliable access to the tools they need to work effectively with local schools.

“Kaseya has changed everything,” said Walsh. “The Kaseya features have allowed us to dramatically improve IT services, ultimately saving us valuable dollars.”

The integrated automation and proactive monitoring from Kaseya alerts IT administrators of potential problems such as high CPU utilization, limited drive space or failed operations before they lead to downtime. Administrators receive the alerts and Kaseya automatically fixes the problem itself through agent procedures. With Kaseya, users now rarely notice the problem and are able to continue accessing their systems, applications and services. Administrators now have the ability to remediate issues in minutes instead of weeks allowing users to do their job more efficiently and effectively.

“Our partners, the federal education department and the grim realities prevalent in many school districts around the country encourage us to continue to expand our programs and stop the high school dropout crisis,” said Kirsten af Klinteberg, National Director of Corporate Development for City Year. “There is a lot of work left to do, and we need our finite resources to go toward touching as many at-risk students as we can. For that reason, IT needs to be as efficient and economical as possible. Yet, we still need to provide our employees and corps members with the tools they need to make a lasting impact in their communities.”
